Training Plan for the Week of December 1, 2025
Today kicks off my winter training season. December is always a little chaotic—with travel, holidays, family time, and plenty of temptation to do absolutely nothing productive—so I’m keeping my goals simple: get in three to four rides a week when we’re home, enjoy the holiday travel guilt-free, and begin easing into a weight-training routine. Think of December as the a gentle on ramp into winter training which begins the week of December 29.
So what does the current week look like?
Pretty straightforward:
• Bike rides: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday
• Stability workouts: Tuesday and Saturday
• Rest day: Thursday
The stability work is important—not just for bike handling, but for life in general. As we get older, we naturally start to lose strength and balance. One of the main reasons older adults end up in the hospital is from falls or simple accidents, and because we don’t bounce back the way we used to, even a small injury can mean a long stretch of inactivity. And that is a tough hole to climb out of.
So, stability and strength training it is. A little extra work now for a safer (and stronger) ride later.
