The last time I did any really serious and consistent riding was back in April of 2012. Looking back on my Strava training blog I can see that I did:
Now, as I get ready to take on my role as a member of the California Teachers Association (CTA) Board of Directors, I find myself struggling with wanting to balance my all consuming union work with at least an acknowledgment that I need to do something to improve my health. In other words, I need to incorporate some of this . . . Into a whole lot of this . . . In order to be and feel healthier. This blog is about my exploration of how to go about that.

Today was my first time in about 5 years that I got back on the bike. It was pretty painful, but I think the biggest source of pain isn't just physical, but the comparison of how much and easily I was riding back between 2008 and 2011. Back then a 20 mile ride was just a recovery ride. Today, I did the most excruciatingly slow 11 miles. But truth be told, despite the shaky bike handling, pedaling in squares and no conditioning, I had fun, which is what riding the bike has always been about.
